Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday evening's pedestrian-involved fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 51 south of Highway 22 in Polk County. Names of the involved driver and victim pedestrian will be released Wednesday.

According to Sergeant Tim Plummer, on November 26, 2013 at approximately 6:20 p.m., a 74-year old woman was struck by a vehicle along Highway 51 south of Poplar Lane. The victim, with aid of a walker, was attempting to cross Highway 51 when she was struck in the northbound lane by a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 21-year old female. Conditions were dark and there is no overhead street lighting at the location where the victim was struck in front of her residence driveway.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital where she died after arrival.

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are investigating the crash. OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Fire District #1, Keizer Police Department, and ODOT. The highway was closed about 3 hours during incident response and the investigation.
