The City of Beaverton will host a Multicultural Community Forum, in collaboration with Portland State University's Center for Public Service, on Saturday, June 1 at Beaverton City Library (12375 SW 5th Street). The forum creates a dialogue between public officials and the community's ethnic minority members.

Attendees can also learn about city services as well as opportunities to become involved with the city's various boards, commissions and committees.

"It's important that every voice in our community is heard," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "A forum like this is crucial to a healthy civic process. In a city where one in four residents is foreign-born, it's important for everyone to participate in this community conversation."

From this forum, the city hopes increase public participation from its ethnic minority members. The city's goal is to promote mutual understanding between residents and local government officials.

"For many immigrants and refugees, the concept of civic engagement is quite foreign," said Daniel Vazquez, the city's Cultural Inclusion Coordinator. "As the face of the city changes, a diverse representation of its residents is imperative."

Refreshments will be served during the forum and attendees enter a free drawing for $25 gift cards. Free childcare and translation services are available to those who pre-register at www.planetreg.com/DTFforum, email DTFforum@gmail.com or call 971-217-6398.
