PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE AT THE SCENE OF HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SPILL NEAR AIRPORT WAY

At 838pm Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to report of a hazardous material spill at 11933 NE Glenn Widing Dr. Initial reports were that the driver of a 53 foot tractor/trailer had noticed an unknown fluid leaking from the rear of the trailer and that a few bystanders were experiencing symptoms. This information resulted in a "Haz-Mat II" response which involves PF&R fire crews and the activation of the Oregon State Hazardous Material team which includes specially trained PF&R engine and truck crews.
Once these crews arrived they initially determined that there was a need to evacuate one office building which was occupied at the time and in close proximity to the area of the spill.
Crews were assigned to evaluate the bystanders and evacuated workers and found that none of them had symptoms relative to the spill. Haz-Mat Technicians from Engine and Truck 7 outfitted in protective gear approached the spill and obtained samples for testing. Once it was determined that the material was not hazardous, a plan for unloading the truck was assembled. PF&R Haz-Mat Technicians are currently on-scene to oversee the unloading process.
