Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of a single vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred Friday morning when a commercial motor vehicle traveled off Interstate 84 westbound near North Powder onto the median and overturned. The victim's name will be released later this afternoon.

According to Sergeant Kyle Hove, on September 28, 2012 at approximately 4:50 a.m., a commercial motor vehicle truck and trailer driven by a 53-year old male was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 286 when it veered off the highway, into the median and overturned. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by North Powder Fire & Rescue firefighters. He was pronounced deceased at the scene after removal from the truck.

OSP troopers from the La Grande Area Command are continuing the investigation. Trooper Grant Jackson is the lead investigator.

OSP was assisted at the scene by North Powder Fire & Rescue and ODOT. The highway was closed for over an hour.
