Store operations were stopped for the duration of the investigation.

Detectives arrived and started the process of interviewing the suspect, victim, other involved parties and witnesses, as well as reviewing available surveillance video of the incident to determine the sequence of events.

The following is a summary of events.

A verbal argument started in the grocery checkout line between Jerry T. Harryman, age 66 of Milwaukie, and William M. Young Sr., age 59, of Milwaukie. The argument quickly turned into a physical confrontation.

Mr. Harryman is believed to have pulled a handgun, which he had a valid Concealed Handgun License for in Clackamas County, and shot Mr. Young in the leg.

Multiple people were in the immediate area when the shooting occurred.

Mr. Young continued to fight with Mr. Harryman, and was joined by several citizens in subduing Mr. Harryman, and taking the gun away from him. Fred Meyer Loss Prevention personnel also assisted by handcuffing Mr. Harryman and restraining him until deputies arrived.

Mr. Young was transported by ambulance to OHSU with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

Mr. Harryman was transported to Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital with minor injuries, including facial abrasions. Upon his treatment and release at about 8:00 pm, Mr. Harryman was arrested on the charge of Assault I and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail.

Mr. Harryman's CHL has been revoked pending his arrest for Assault I.

Mr. Harryman is scheduled for a video first appearance at 3:00 pm today in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
