On June 6, 2011, Lee and Karen McCallister from the Fruit Valley Neighborhood Association presented a check to Vancouver Police Chief Cliff Cook in the amount of $1,000. The funds were raised by the neighborhood association and a unanimous vote was taken at their recent neighborhood association meeting to donate the funds to the Vancouver Police Department Neighbors On Watch (NOW) program.

The Fruit Valley Neighborhood Association is also issuing a challenge to the other Vancouver neighborhood associations to match or beat their neighborhood's donation amount.

The NOW program is an integral part of the Vancouver Police Department's community policing efforts and holds NOW training academies several times per year. Applications are currently being accepted for the fall 2011 academy. After completing training, volunteers work in partnership with the Vancouver Police Department, committing 4 hours per month to patrolling within the City of Vancouver. NOW volunteers utilize observational skills to detect and report crime and have been successful in assisting to reduce auto prowls, locate missing persons and locate stolen vehicles.
