GRESHAM POLICE SEIZE MORE THAN $130,000 OF DRUGS IN MARIJUANA BUST
RELEASE DATE: June 8, 2011
CONTACT PERSON: Officer John Rasmussen, Public Information Officer
On the afternoon of June 6, Gresham Police Department's Special Enforcement Team (SET) served a search warrant at 1848 SW 33rd Avenue, Gresham, Ore., seizing more than $145,000 worth of processed marijuana, plants and growing equipment. SET began the investigation after a concerned citizen left a message on the department's drug tip line.
The tip proved lucrative when detectives forced entry into the rental property and found that the entire house was being used to grow and process marijuana. The house's power was extensively rewired, creating a virtual indoor greenhouse with approximately $15,000 worth of fans, air filters and 50 florescent grow lamps. Detectives seized more than 175 mature marijuana plants, 1,000 marijuana plant starts and 25 pounds of processed marijuana buds from multiple rooms of the unoccupied home. The seized marijuana buds have an estimated street value of $50,000 to $100,000 and the mature plants have an estimated value of $80,000.
Detectives are also working with Portland General Electric to investigate the possibility of power theft. No arrest has been made and anyone with information about this case, or any other suspected drug activity near their home, is encouraged to call the Gresham Police Drug Tip Line at 503-661-3784.
