UPDATE:
At 11:15 a.m. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue personnel located the missing hiker on Hunchback Trail; located an estimated one-quarter mile north of Green River Canyon, in the Mount Hood Wilderness.
The located missing hiker is in good condition; although, he is described as being wet, cold, tired and hungry. A SAR Coordinator at the Command Post estimates the search crew and missing hiker will return to the area of the Command Post between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. later today.
Once again, special thanks to all the search and rescue volunteers that donate their valuable expertise to these most critical calls for service.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, search and rescue ground crews in the field established cell phone communications with the missing hiker lost overnight in the Mount Hood wilderness. This missing hiker is reported to be in good condition and conveying valuable locate information to his rescuers.

On Sunday, May 16, 2010, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Desk Officer received a cell phone call from a subject who identified himself as David Patkowski, 25; who stated he attempted to hike into the Devil's Peak area while negotiating the Hunchback Trail, in the Mount Hood wilderness.
This person also explained to the Desk Officer he had a fully charged cell phone; although, was dressed only in light clothing, thirsty and not prepared for a night in the wilderness. He was instructed to remain stationary and a Search and Rescue Coordinator would be calling back to discuss how best to rescue this person in need of assistance.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Coordinators attempted to contact David Patkowski on the cell phone number provided and have not been able to communicate with this subject since his first initial call into the Sheriff's Office.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Coordinators summoned the assistance of Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers represented by:
• Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue
• American Medical Response
• Mountain Wave Communications
These SAR groups totaling at least 30 volunteers have been working throughout the night with their efforts to locate this reportedly lost hiker.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Coordinators declare they are unable to locate any additional information about the person declared as David Patkowski, age 25, who described himself as someone who lived in the Lolo Pass area of Mount Hood.
The Sheriff's Office is attempting to verify who this reported missing hiker actually is and where he resides. The possibility exists this person may have some undeclared medical condition, or other issues the Sheriff's Office should become aware of at this time. At this point, law-enforcement data bases have been unable to locate either this specific person described, or a place of residence for this person in the Lolo Pass area.
