GRESHAM, Ore. – The City is adding an additional two miles to the existing Gresham-Fairview Trail from NE Halsey Street at 201st Avenue south to Burnside Road. The new paved trail section will continue from Burnside Road south to the Springwater Trail.
Neither the Springwater Trail nor the existing Gresham-Fairview Trail will be closed during construction. Trail construction is scheduled from May to December for phases II and III. Construction activity starts the week of May 17 on the Powell pedestrian bridge. Traffic will be reduced to one lane east and west just before the bridge construction site at 190th and W. Powell Boulevard. Short delays may be expected during regular work hours in this area.
Highlights of the new Gresham-Fairview Trail section include the connection to the Springwater Trail at 190th Avenue and safe pedestrian bridge crossing over Powell Boulevard.
When Phases II and III open for public use, people will be able to walk, jog and bicycle 3.29 miles from Halsey Street south to the Springwater Trail.
When completed, the Gresham-Fairview Trail will connect the Springwater Trail and the 40-Mile Loop at Marine Drive, two regionally popular trails. The 12-foot wide, 5.2-mile multi-use recreational and commuter trail will link neighborhoods to schools, parks, natural areas and businesses.
The right of way for the project was purchased with $500,000 from the Metro Open Space Bond Measure. The City received an $800,000 grant from Federal Transportation Enhancement Funds. In addition the City has received a Federal $2,029,000 Safetea-LU Grant. The remainder of the project is funded by $500,000 of Park System Development Charges collected from developers.
The City is currently planning Gresham Fairview Trail phases 4 and 5, which will extend the trail from 201st at Halsey to Marine Drive at Interlachen Lane.
