News Release from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue
Posted on FlashAlert: August 5th, 2014 2:27 PM
For the next three afternoons, from 4-7pm, Hillsboro firefighters will take to the streets with empty boots for their annual fund raising campaign known as Fill-the-Boot. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to fill the firefighters' boots with cash and check donations to benefit MDA and help the Firefighters reach their goal of $20,000 .
Firefighters, both career and volunteer, along with family members will be staffing donation locations at three intersections around the city.
* Wednesday at the intersection of Brookwood and Main.
* Thursday at the intersection of 10th and Baseline.
* Friday at the intersection 25th and Cornell.
All donations collected during the Fill-the-Boot will help fund local MDA programs and services, including support groups and equipment such as wheel chairs and leg braces. The proceeds also support clinics at Oregon Health and Science University and Shriners Hospital for Children and help send Oregon children with muscle wasting diseases to MDA summer camp each year.
The firefighter's efforts are a portion of the national relationship with the MDA organization. For 60 years, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has supported MDA. The Hillsboro firefighters are among public safety members from eight agencies in the Portland Metro area to take part in the Fill-the-Boot campaign.
