On November 1, 2015, at about 2:30PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a multiple vehicle crash on Highway 20 near milepost 78 (two miles west of Hoodoo).

Preliminary information indicates a 2006 Scion, operated by Kara J SMITH, age 31, of Redmond, was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when she lost control on a sweeping right curve. The Scion crossed the center line and into the path of a westbound 2009 Ford Flex wagon, operated by Gail W HAYES, age 73, of Salem. The Ford struck the Scion and both came to rest in the westbound lanes.

An off-duty trooper assigned to the Salem Area Command stopped at the crash scene and rendered medical aid. Two children from the Scion were taken by ground ambulance to Black Butte Ranch and then by air ambulance to St Charles Bend for treatment of serious injuries. At least two adults were taken by ground ambulance to St Charles Bend for serious injuries.

The conditions at the time were light rain and the highway was wet. The highway was closed in both directions for a short period of time but one lane was opened a shortly after. The investigation is continuing and more information will be released when it is available.
