On August 5, 2015, at 7:07 p.m., a Washington County Sheriff's Deputy found Gary Bruce Walker, 59, from Tigard unresponsive in his cell. Additional deputies responded and immediately began CPR until medical personnel arrived to assist and transported Mr. Walker to a local hospital.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Mr. Walker succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Mr. Walker was housed in general population in a single occupant cell. He was discovered by the deputy on her regularly scheduled check of all the inmates. Preliminary investigation shows that Mr. Walker intentionally took his own life.

Mr. Walker was lodged in the Washington County Jail on August 1, 2015. He was arrested by Tigard Police Department and charged with Assault, Strangulation and Harassment steaming from a domestic violence incident.

The Washington County Jail has an extensive suicide assessment and prevention program that begins before the arrested person is lodged in the jail and continues throughout their stay.

Washington County Detectives are conducting a thorough investigation, which is standard procedure in these types of incidents.

Mr. Walker's family has been notified of the incident.
