ARSON INVESTIGATION WITH ARREST (PHOTO)

Arrested: O'NEIL, Mark E. DOB 05/13/1966 Booked on charges of Arson 1st Degree
Resident of: Oak Tree Apartments - 7317 NE Hazel Dell Ave. Vancouver, WA.
Just after 6AM today sheriff's deputies and Fire District six responded to a small fire at the Oak Tree Apartments 7317 NE Hazel Dell Ave. Responders discovered a portion of the occupied apartment complex had been set on fire with flames approximately 10 feet high burning on the side of the complex. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Investigators also discovered that three mounted fire extinguishers on the side of the apartment complex had been removed and intentionally discharged, but not in an effort to put out the fire. Subsequent investigation revealed that Oak Tree Apartment dweller, Mark O'Neil had been observed just before the fire alarm was raised, in the immediate area where the fire had started. Investigators contacted O'Neil and took him into custody charged with Arson 1st degree.
The motive for the arson is unknown at this time; there was no building evacuation required and no injuries to occupants or responders. This case remains under investigation. See attached scene photo's.
