Clark County Sheriff Garry Lucas will be presented with a law enforcement accreditation recognition from a representative of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) at the Board of County Commissioners Meeting 10AM, Tuesday, October 21st, 2014; 6th floor Hearing Room, Public Service Complex. West coast CALEA manager, Mark Mosier will make the presentation to Sheriff Lucas recognizing the ninth consecutive accreditation and 28 years of CALEA certification.
CALEA accreditation requires law enforcement agency compliance with 482 industry standards. Every three years an assessment team examines all aspects of an agency policy and procedures, management, hiring practices, operations and support services to verify compliance. The Clark County Sheriff's Office has been continuously CALEA accredited since 1986.
Since its inception, CALEA has accredited over 1000 agencies under standards developed by many of the best public safety practitioners and leaders of our time. Gaining internationally accredited status is a distinction held by very few, as there are over 18,000 law enforcement agencies just in the United States alone.

The goals of CALEA are to:
? Strengthen crime prevention and control capabilities;
? Formalize essential management procedures;
? Establish fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices;
? Improve service delivery;
? Solidify interagency cooperation and coordination; and
? Increase community and staff confidence in the agency.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
