Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and West Linn Police Department, arrested a 24-year old Hillsboro man Sunday night for felony attempt to elude, DUII and other charges following several driving complaints on Interstate 5. The man's 5-year old son was found in the vehicle after spike strips were deployed and the vehicle stopped at the bottom of an exit ramp in West Linn.
On September 28, 2014 at approximately 10:27 p.m., OSP Northern Command Center dispatch received multiple citizen driving complaints regarding a red 2001 Ford Focus northbound on Interstate 5 approaching Wilsonville. The vehicle reportedly was using multiple traffic lanes, nearly hit other vehicles, and struck construction zone barrels.
At approximately 10:40 p.m., an OSP senior trooper got in behind the Ford Focus and attempted to stop it northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 286. The driver failed to yield and continued northbound onto Interstate 205 at 50 - 60 mph as OSP was joined by Clackamas County deputies and West Linn police moving into strategic locations to assist with spike strip deployment.
At approximately 10:48 p.m., the vehicle took the northbound off-ramp at the 10th Street exit in West Linn where it ran over spike strips and stopped. Law enforcement officers took the car's driver, JESUS HERNANDEZ, age 24, from Hillsboro, into custody. When officers checked the car they found the driver's 5-year old son seated inside.
HERNANDEZ was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:
* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* DUII - Alcohol & Controlled Substances
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
