Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested a 30-year old Cornelius man Sunday afternoon following his attempt to elude a trooper along Highway 18 west of McMinnville in Yamhill County. The man's attempt to flee ended near the Riverbend Landfill after he abandoned the car and fled on foot before being arrested.
On August 10, 2014 at approximately 11:56 a.m., an OSP trooper on patrol saw a 2008 Acura four door traveling eastbound at 99 mph on Highway 18 near milepost 29. The trooper activated the patrol car's emergency lights and siren to stop the car but the driver failed to yield, speeding up to over 100 mph and passing other traffic on the left and right. As the Acura continued eastbound, deputies from Polk and Yamhill counties were heading toward the area to assist.
At times, the Acura's speed slowed due to heavy traffic but its driver continued operating in a reckless manner. Near milepost 42, the Acura turned off Highway 18 toward a landfill and stopped on a gravel road. A male driver got out of the car and fled with the trooper chasing on foot for over 200 yards. At approximately 12:10 p.m., the driver surrendered to the trooper without further incident as deputies arrived on scene.
The driver was identified as DYLAN SPENCER KENT, age 30, from Cornelius. He was lodged in the Yamhill County on the following charges:
* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
KENT was also cited for Driving While Suspended.
An adult female passenger was not arrested.
