TWO MEN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AND ROBBERY OF 7-11 CLERK (PHOTO)

May 13, 2014--Washington County Sheriff's Deputies arrested two men after they allegedly beat a store clerk who attempted to stop them from stealing two sodas.
On May 12, 2014 at about 9:33 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies were called to the 7-11 convenience store at 17771 SW TV Highway in the community of Aloha, concerning an assault and robbery. Multiple Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area to render aid to the victim and search for the suspects. Upon arrival, deputies learned there were two men that came into the store and filled up two Big Gulp sodas then walked out of the store without paying.
Sheriff's Deputies were told the store clerk went outside and told the men to come inside and pay for the drinks. Both men returned to the store and reportedly became increasingly uncooperative and belligerent with the clerk.
One of the men, later identified as Luis Thomas Mercado-Rosas, 20, from Aloha, reportedly began punching the 38-year-old clerk, knocking him to the floor. The second man, later identified as Alejandro Loarca-Bautista, 21, from Cornelius, reportedly began kicking the clerk while he was on the floor. Both men ran out of the store when a second clerk called 911. The clerk was transported by ambulance to a local hospital trauma center with substantial head injuries.
As Sheriff's Deputies were searching the area, witnesses provide information that assisted in the capture of Mr. Loarca-Bautista and Mr. Mercado-Rosas. They were captured less than 30 minutes later at an apartment complex located at 17770 SW Shaw Street. They were both arrested without further incident.
Alejandro Loarca-Bautista was charged with Second Degree Robbery, Second Degree Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Criminal Mischief. He was lodged in the Washington County Jail and is being held on $250,000 bail.
Luis Thomas Mercado-Rosas was charged with Second Degree Robbery, Second Degree Assault, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Mischief. He was lodged in the Washington County Jail and is being held on $250,000 bail.
