Through May 31, the Beaverton Arts Commission (BAC) presents artwork by Russian Artist Evgeniia Golant and her interpretation of the migrant worker. The city has also extended its April exhibit that features artworks by local foster children.
"Golant's thought-provoking exhibit gives us a chance to broaden our cultural perspective," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "In Beaverton, we celebrate the arts and diversity. This exhibit highlights both."
In 2005, Golant organized an art exhibit structured around farmer's markets in Russia. Golant captured the diverse atmosphere, while portraying the life of a migrant worker. The work displayed in city hall is from her "Art Prospect" festival. Each piece tells the story of an individual who migrated from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan for work--and the significance behind their long journey. For more information, visit www.egolant.com.
The Mayor also encourages residents to view the art by local foster children.
"These children have created powerful and personal artworks," said Mayor Doyle. "It's an honor to show their work, they've poured their hearts into their art."
Once a month, Foster Family Care Network hosts, "Foster Parents' Night Out." For this particular display they partnered with local charitable organization, "A Jesus Church" to host an event geared to empower foster children through art. The event gave children a chance to express their creativity and gain a sense of accomplishment.
"This is a wonderful program and one more example of how our community cares for its own," said Mayor Doyle.
Beaverton City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All artwork is for sale. For more information, please visit www.BeavertonOregon.gov.
