A TVF&R fire investigator has ruled the cause of this fire as undetermined. The fire originated in the attic above the suspended ceiling. Damage is estimated at $100,000. The portable classroom was being used to store drama props, desks, chairs, file cabinets, and other miscellaneous items.

At approximately 5:50am this morning TVF&R firefighters were dispatched to a fire in a portable classroom at Highland Park MS, which was located behind the main school structure. On arrival crews found the portable classroom fully involved with flames that were approximately 40ft high. Firefighters began a quick exterior fire attack of the portable while also ensuring the fire did not spread to the main school building. While several downed power lines created a safety hazard for crews, firefighters were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire within 15 minutes.

School principal David Nieslanik said the portable classroom was being used for storage at the time and not as a classroom.

A fire investigator is currently onscene to determine fire cause and origin. There were no reported injuries.
