Mayor Denny Doyle announced this morning that he has asked Cheryl Twete to join his management team as the City of Beaverton's newest Community Development Director.

"I am thrilled that Cheryl has agreed to come aboard and join the team," said Mayor Doyle. "She's a longtime Beaverton resident, very experienced in high profile redevelopment project work throughout the Portland metropolitan region. She is exactly what we need to achieve our vision of being customer service friendly and open for business here in Beaverton."

Twete has worked as Metro's senior development advisor, managing high profile efforts such as the Headquarters Hotel project, Expo Center and Oregon Zoo masterplanning, Schnitzer Concert Hall renovation and Main Street project, among others. Prior to that, Twete served as interim general manager for the MERC organization, overseeing a staff of 195 full-time employees.

Doyle was especially impressed by Twete's more than 20 years of executive level leadership at the Portland Development Commission.

"Cheryl has a very extensive been-there-done-that resume," said Doyle. "I appreciate her approach and acumen when it comes to putting challenging redevelopment deals together. I'm also impressed with her proven track record for strategic leadership in managing a professional staff. We couldn't be more pleased, and I'm excited for the chance to work with her going forward."

"It is an honor to serve as the new Community Development Director for Mayor Doyle and the residents of Beaverton," said Cheryl Twete. "Beaverton has been a wonderful home for my family for many years and I look forward to working with the Council, staff and the community to grow its brand as a highly desirable place to live and work."

The city has been without a permanent director since December 2013. Mayor Doyle led a collaborative approach to the recruitment process, which weighed heavily upon input from the Beaverton business community and CDD professional staff. The Mayor also emphasized the need for an individual with excellent redevelopment experience, a strong personnel management background, and a good overall fit with the community.

"Cheryl's experience with urban renewal and redevelopment project work was the tipping point for me. She has the right skill set for the job," said Doyle.

Over the years, Twete has served as senior staff to catalytic projects such as South Waterfront Central District Development Agreement; Union Station Development Agreement; Gateway Transit Center Development Agreement; Central City Selected Revitalization Initiatives; and residential/mixed use development efforts such as Park Avenue Apartments, 725 Flanders Lofts, RiverPlace Townhomes, Center Commons, and Union Station Housing.

Twete is expected to join the city on May 12, 2014.
