On 03-01-14 at 8:58 p.m. two teenage males attempted to cross Hwy 224 at SE 37th Avenue against the traffic signal. Both teens tried to cross the highway in the crosswalk, but against the walk-signal. Disregarding the traffic control device, they tried to run across in front of an approaching vehicle travelling westbound on Hwy 224.

The first teen was successful in crossing the inside lane before the westbound vehicle entered the crosswalk. The second teen chose to follow, but impacted with the driver's side of a 2004 Ford F150 pickup travelling at a highway speed of about 50 mph in the inside lane.

The driver of the Ford pickup had the right-of-way on a green traffic light. She stopped immediately, stayed on-scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver was not impaired, and there is no indication alcohol or drugs were involved. The driver was not injured.

The injured teen was transported by ambulance to OHSU with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.
