Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Polk County District Attorney's Office, is continuing the investigation into a serious injury pedestrian-involved collision that occurred early Friday morning along Highway 18 about four miles west of Grand Ronde in Polk County.
On January 3, 2014 at approximately 5:05 a.m., a report was received that an adult male was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle along Highway 18 near milepost 18. Polk County Sheriff's Office and West Valley Fire District personnel arrived first and confirmed the initial report. The man was transported by ground ambulance to Salem Hospital where he is in critical condition. The involved vehicle and adult female driver remained at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the male victim was traveling with the female occupant when they stopped on the highway shoulder. The male had exited the car before being struck by the vehicle driven by the female.
OSP troopers and detectives are working with Polk County District Attorney's Office at the scene continuing the investigation.
ODOT assisted on scene with traffic control while one westbound lane was closed until early this afternoon.
