Oregon State Police (OSP) and ODOT are asking for the public's help to locate the vehicle and involved driver in a hit-and-run crash last Thursday night in the Baker City area. The vehicle caused extensive guardrail damage before leaving the scene.
On January 2, 2014 at approximately 11:00 p.m., OSP discovered the damage on the eastbound onramp to Interstate 84 from Cedar Street just north of Baker City. OSP had patrolled through the area about an hour earlier and saw no damage so the trooper believes the damage happened between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling on Cedar Street and tried to get onto the eastbound onramp toward Interstate 84 when its driver lost control. The vehicle crashed into the guardrail and knocked down a sign. After causing the damage, the driver backed the vehicle out and left the scene, possibly heading eastbound on Interstate 84. The vehicle may be a late 1980s - early 1990s Ford pickup and should have extensive front damage.
Anyone with information to help locate the vehicle and identify the driver is asked to call Oregon State Police at (541) 523-5867. Lead investigator is Recruit Trooper Tim Schuette.
