Alerted by the witnesses, Specialist Michael Cutone immediately jumped into action. After a quick assessment of the man's condition, he began administering Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) until Sergeant First Class Jeremy Carver and First Sergeant Jeremy Mcloud arrived to assist. The soldiers continued C-P-R until Metro West Ambulance Unit #30 arrived followed by Hillsboro Firefighters. First Sergeant Mcloud, who is also a volunteer firefighter, continued to assist EMS upon their arrival where the patient was defibrillated twice before being transported to a local hospital for additional treatment. The patient remained in the hospital until Monday, December 29th, when he was released with no apparent neurolog ical deficits. The patient's identity is unavailable due to patient privacy laws.
Hillsboro firefighter/medics credit the soldiers quick decisive actions and application of C-P-R with saving the man's life.
"All the elements of success were lined up on this call," said Fire Chief Greg Nelson. "An early notification to 9-1-1, quick application of C-P-R and deployment of an AED combined with definitive cardiac care at a hospital."
Members of the media are invited to attend the presentation at the Hillsboro City Council Meeting on January 7th, located at the Hillsboro Civic Center Auditorium, 150 E. Main Street at 7:00 pm.
