CLACKAMAS ICE RESCUE

News Release from Clackamas Fire Dist. #1
Posted on FlashAlert: December 14th, 2013 10:47 AM
Clackamas firefighters used a 24 foot long aluminum ladder to rescue the latest victim of frigid temperatures in the county. Last night after 10 p.m., an elderly female was discovered lying on her back in the middle of a frozen pond about 20 feet from the manicured edge. Several bystanders attempted to assist the lady at Highland and SE Sumner Lane, but were not able to remedy the situation due to the fragility of the ice. Clackamas firefighter Cooper, performed a quick drag rescue over the four foot deep water, transferring his weight on the ground ladder spread over the ice. No injuries were reported during the incident, and it is not known why the lady was on the man-made water feature.
Even with temperatures rising above freezing, hazards abound in the form of melting ice. Please use caution around any body of water no matter what size or temperature.
