PORTLAND, Ore. --From Prineville's Christmas in the Pines to Albany's Twice Around Christmas Parade to Jacksonville's historic Victorian Christmas Celebration, festive community holiday lighting displays celebrate the season while illuminating the benefits of renewable energy.

Throughout Oregon, Blue Sky renewable energy customers are matching the electricity for lighting celebrations in Pacific Power communities with emission-free renewable energy. Together, these holiday lighting displays are being "greened" with more than a quarter million kilowatt hours of Blue Sky renewable energy. The renewable energy from the Blue Sky "greenings":

* Avoids 313,000 pounds of carbon dioxide,
* Which is the environmental equivalent of planting 3,684 trees,
* Equates to not driving more than 337,000 miles - or 1,125 roundtrips from Redmond (Run, Run Rudolf Festival) to Corvallis (Illuminated Benton County Courthouse).

"Bringing light to the holidays is Pacific Power's commitment to its customers today, and has been for more than a century," said Pat Reiten, president and CEO of Pacific Power. "With renewable energy now part of the fabric of the state, we're proud that our Blue Sky customers 'green' these traditional festivals, helping light the season in a meaningful, sustainable way all over Oregon."
Pacific Power customers also can celebrate the season and by "greening" their own homes and businesses. Signing on for just one, 100-kilowatt hour block of Blue Sky renewable energy costs only $1.95 per month. Customers can purchase a few blocks or match all of their personal or business usage with renewable energy through the Blue Sky Usage or Habitat options.
Currently, more than 50,000 Pacific Power customers are enrolled in Blue Sky in the Northwest, including 2,700 in Medford, which just exceeded its Community Blue Sky Challenge. To enroll, call Pacific Power at 1-800-769-3717 or visit www.pacificpower.net/bluesky .
