OSP FISH & WILDLIFE TROOPERS STEP UP HOLIDAY WEEKEND RAZOR CLAM DIGGING ENFORCEMENT ON CLATSOP COUNTY BEACHES

Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division troopers stepped up enforcement efforts over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend on Clatsop County beaches to educate clam diggers through enforcement of rules and regulations for the protection of razor clam populations. During the two day focused effort, troopers contacted 305 people while noting an overall 85 percent compliance rate for related rules and regulations.
With some of the lowest tides of the year occurring during the holiday weekend, OSP Fish & Wildlife troopers, in uniform and plain clothes, were on the beaches with thousands of people visiting Clatsop County to partake in digging razor clams. Troopers issued 27 warnings and 20 citations for violations including unlawfully digging clams for another, exceeding the bag limit, failure to retain the first 15 clams, and license violations.
Clams seized by troopers as evidence were later donated to local food banks.
