METRO SHERIFFS' MEMORIAL WEEKEND PRELIMINARY TRAFFIC SAFETY RESULTS

Metro Sheriffs' Memorial Weekend Preliminary Traffic Safety Results

May 28, 2013-- Metro area Sheriff's Offices from Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill Counties increased DUII patrols during this Memorial holiday weekend. Deputies were out in force working on a regional effort to identify and arrest DUII drivers and other aggressive drivers.

Listed are the preliminary results from the five counties collected between 6:00p.m. May 23, 2013 and 4:00a.m. May 28, 2013:

Total drivers contacted: 1250
Total distracted driving citations: 82
Total aggressive driving citations: 95
DUII Arrests: 28-two were drug related
DUII related crashes: 4-none fatal
Total Arrests: 54
Driving While Suspended citations: 37
Speeding citations: 326

Unfortunately, two people lost their lives in a motor vehicle crash within the five reporting counties this holiday weekend. The crash occurred on May 26, 2013 on SW Highway 219 and SW Simpson Road south of Hillsboro.

The Metro Sheriffs' Offices will continue their regional traffic safety efforts during holidays and other high traffic times of the year.
