Two people were injured, one seriously, Friday afternoon in a collision involving a passenger car and semi-trailer along Highway 213 about seven miles south of Molalla. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. The names of the two people injured are released in this update.
On April 19, 2013 at approximately 1:25 p.m., a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu four-door driven by FRANK E. POWELL JR, age 83, from Klamath Falls, was northbound on Highway 213 near S. Kropf Road when it crossed the centerline and collided into the left side of a passing southbound semi-trailer pulled by a 1993 Kenworth truck driven by TYSON CHILDRESS, age 28, from Mill City. Both vehicles came to rest blocking the highway.
POWELL was transported by ground ambulance to Silverton Hospital with minor injuries. The 78-year old female passenger, GLADYS JANE MACOM from Molalla, was transported by air ambulance to Salem Hospital with serious injuries. Both were using safety restraints and the car's airbags deployed.
CHILDRESS was not injured. He was using safety restraints.
OSP was assisted by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office during the scene investigation. Monitor Fire District, Molalla Rural Fire Protection District #73, and ODOT also assisted at the scene. The highway is still closed and may be re-opened by 4:30 p.m. Traffic updates can be found at TripCheck.com.
