Three people were injured Tuesday morning when their passenger car was sandwiched between the back of stopped garbage truck and a commercial truck along Highway 99W south of Dundee. The crash blocked all or part of the highway for about 3 hours.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Brad Hessel, on February 26, 2013 at approximately 11:20 a.m., a garbage truck operated by MICHAEL LINGLE, age 47, from McMinnville, was stopped straddling the right fog line southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 27 completing garbage pickup for a nearby residence. A southbound 2005 Scion Tc driven by ABELARDO LUCERO, age 32, from Vancouver, Washington, stopped behind the truck instead of going around it and was struck from behind by a 1991 Kenworth truck driven by MARK FOLSOM, age 53, from Portland. Upon impact, the Kenworth truck pushed the Scion into the back of the garbage truck.

LUCERO and right front passenger ROXANNE WHEELER, age 23, from Vancouver, were transported by ambulance to Providence Newberg Medical Center with minor injuries. Rear seat passenger RUFINA VASQUEZ-GERVACIO, age 28, was trapped and extricated by fire personnel from Newberg and Dundee fire departments. It took fire personnel about 30 minutes to remove her before she was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

OSP was also assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Newberg-Dundee Police Department, and ODOT. No enforcement action pending.
