FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 199 NORTH OF CAVE JUNCTION (PHOTOS)

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Josephine County District Attorney's Office, is continuing the investigation into Monday evening's two-vehicle traffic crash along Highway 199 about four miles north of Cave Junction that resulted in the death of a 68-year old Selma woman and injuries to three other people.
According to Sergeant First Class Jeff Proulx, on January 7, 2013 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a 2004 Subaru Legacy station wagon driven by RUARK MILLER, age 24, from Cave Junction, was southbound on Highway 199 near milepost 25 when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a northbound 1984 Dodge pickup driven by DAVID WONDERLING, age 48, from Selma. A fire started in the pickup and was extinguished by people who stopped at the scene to help.
MILLER was transported by AMR ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass with non-life threatening injuries. He was not using safety restraints.
WONDERLING and his passenger/daughter KAITLYN SMITH, age 12, were also transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital. Both were treated and released. A second passenger in the Dodge pickup identified as JOYCE WILSON, age 68, from Selma, was transported by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. She died from injuries sustained in the crash. Safety restraint use by these occupants is pending confirmation.
OSP troopers from the Grants Pass work site are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Illinois Valley Fire District, AMR ambulance, ODOT and the District Attorney's office assisted.
