Oregon State Police troopers are continuing their investigation into Monday morning's fatal traffic crash along Highway 199 southwest of Grants Pass that resulted in the death of an adult male from Cave Junction. The names of the victim and female passenger are released in this update.

According to Sergeant Jeff Allison, on November 12, 2012 at approximately 10:57 a.m., a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by TODD STANLEY WEINKAUF, age 56, from Cave Junction, was northbound on Highway 199 near milepost 7 when a southbound 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 van driven by DAVID HART, age not available, from Medford, traveled across the centerline. The Ford Explorer's driver swerved toward the right shoulder in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. The two vehicles struck driver side to driver side.

After impact, the Ford Explorer spun onto the east shoulder of the highway. TODD WEINKAUF was pronounced deceased at the scene. CAMERON A. WEINKAUF, age 64, from Cave Junction, was the right front female passenger in the Ford Explorer and was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass. Her injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.

HART was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass where he was treated for minor injuries.

All occupants were using safety restraints.

Highway 199 was reduced to a single lane of travel for about three hours while the crash was investigated by OSP troopers from the Grants Pass and Central Point offices. Senior Trooper Tanya Henderson is the lead investigator and no enforcement decision made at this time. OSP is requesting anyone witnessing the crash to call the OSP Southern Command Center dispatch at (541) 474-3174.

OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Rural/Metro Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance. Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
