SERIOUS INJURY TRAFFIC CRASH - INTERSTATE 5 NORTHBOUND OFF RAMP AT EHLEN ROAD (DONALD/AURORA INTERCHANGE)
Posted: November 29th, 2012 4:31 PM

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Wednesday night's single vehicle traffic crash at the Interstate 5 northbound off ramp at Ehlen Road NE (Donald/Aurora interchange) that seriously injured a Lebanon-area man.

On November 28, 2012 at approximately 9:42 p.m., OSP troopers were dispatched to a reported hit-and-run crash along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 north of Woodburn. While enroute to contact the victim, another reported crash involving a single vehicle was reported at the Ehlen Road NE off ramp. Troopers later confirmed this vehicle was the suspect vehicle involved in the earlier hit-and-run crash.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2008 Ford F350 pickup driven by VASILIY YASHCHISHEN, age 40, from Lebanon, was northbound at a high rate of speed exiting Interstate 5 near milepost 278 when it continued off Ehlen Road NE and struck several trees. The pickup reportedly caught fire and the male driver, YASHCHISHEN, was pulled out of the pickup by a couple unidentified citizens who stopped at the scene.

YASHCHISHEN was seriously injured and transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. Safety restraint use information is not available.

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office and Portland Area Command office responded to the scene. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Aurora Fire Department and Hubbard Police Department.
