Two South Dakota residents are facing charges in Harney County, Oregon after a Monday night traffic stop by an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper west of Burns led to the discovery of approximately 4 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle.

On November 12, 2012 at approximately 9:15 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped a rented 2012 Chevrolet Impala displaying Washington license plates eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 117 for a traffic violation. The vehicle was occupied by driver LYNN WALTER LIECHIT, age 62, from Custer, South Dakota, and passenger JENIFER SUSAN JOHNSON, age 38, from Hill City, South Dakota.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the discovery of approximately 4 pounds of marijuana in the car's trunk. Estimated value of the seized marijuana is $5,000.

LIECHIT was taken into custody and lodged in the Harney County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Marijuana. JOHNSON was cited and released on the same charges to appear in Harney County Circuit Court.
