Three people were injured Saturday morning along Highway 34 west of Alsea when the driver of a vehicle lost control and went down an embankment before coming to a rest. All received non-life threatening injuries.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Senior Trooper David Peterson, on November 10, 2012 at approximately 12 noon a sport utility vehicle driven by EVELYN BROWN, age 56, from Waldport, was westbound on Highway 34 near milepost 25 coming out of a curve when she lost control. The vehicle went across the highway, struck a guardrail and went up an embankment for going down into heavy brush near a river.
BROWN was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. Two passengers identified as LACY GUSTAFSON, age 31, and BEN FLOSS, age 27, both from Salem, were transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport. GUSTAFSON's two-year old son was in a car seat and not injured. All were using appropriate safety restraints.
OSP was also assisted at the scene by Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and ODOT. No citations issued.
Wet road conditions and a build up of wet leaves may have been a factor. OSP reminds travelers that wet leaves on the road may be slippery for motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. Leaves may also obscure and cover traffic lines and roadway markings. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra-caution when these conditions are present on the road.
