Posted: November 10th, 2012 7:32 PM
Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Saturday afternoon's pedestrian-involved crash that seriously injured a Fall Creek-area man along Parkway Road north of Pleasant Hill. Enforcement action decision is pending upon completion of the investigation and review by the Lane County District Attorney's Office.
On November 10, 2012 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Cadillac sport utility vehicle (SUV) was stopped southbound on Parkway Road south of Wheeler Road waiting to turn left into a mill with a Dodge Neon stopped behind it reportedly honking its horn. The Cadillac's passenger, identified as ALEJANDRO M. PEREZ, age 35, from Fall Creek, got out and walked back between the two vehicles approaching the Dodge Neon when the Dodge Neon pulled out into the northbound lane of traffic to pass the Cadillac. A northbound Volkswagen van driven by TIMOTHY JARVIS, age 36, from Eugene, passed between the Dodge and Cadillac and was unable to avoid hitting PEREZ when he stepped into the northbound lane.
PEREZ was transported by ambulance Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where he is reported in critical condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
JARVIS was not injured.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Ron Martin is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Pleasant Hill Fire Department and ODOT. The highway was blocked about 30 minutes.
No other information to be released.
