- Beaverton's Workforce Training Assistance Program helps create new jobs -

The city of Beaverton has awarded $14,500 in Workforce Training Assistance (WTA) funds to help software developer, Prolifiq Software, Inc. hire and train six new software engineers. The city's WTA program, along with Prolifiq, has the potential of leveraging an additional $6,000 per employee from nonprofit Worksystems Inc. and the state program Worksource Oregon toward these six jobs.

The purpose of the WTA program is to promote access to training funds that result in the growth of skilled, productive family-wage trade sector jobs in Beaverton. This program is targeted toward employers who create new full-time jobs or expand their existing workforce by filling those positions with employees who have been unemployed for a minimum of 60 days.

"The city's assistance will help us achieve our rapid growth expectations," said Jeff Gaus, Prolifiq's chief executive officer. "Prolifiq is growing dramatically because of our focus serving companies in the life sciences, technology and--very soon--the financial services industries. These WTA funds will significantly assist us in addressing our immediate hiring needs."

Prolifiq develops software that helps sales professionals use digital content in their communications with customers and prospective customers. The Beaverton company is the leading provider of "hybrid" cloud applications for life sciences, technology and visual media companies.

"We're committed to assisting our businesses grow and expand," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "Our WTA program provides training funds to companies who are creating new jobs and bringing unemployed people back into the workforce."

The WTA program targets companies currently in Beaverton, or those who are interested in relocating to the city. The programs focuses on the following key target market sectors--software and information services; scientific and medical instrumentation; electrical and electronics equipment manufacturing; food processing; and sporting goods and apparel.

"Software development is one of the city's key target markets," explained Alma Flores, economic development manager. "It's a market that is poised for even greater growth over the next few years as more firms move toward digital platforms."

An eligible business may apply for up to 50 percent of their workforce training costs or up to a maximum of $2,500 per employee (maximum training assistance per company may not exceed $40,000 in any calendar year and specific terms and conditions apply).

The city of Beaverton's Economic Development Division oversees the WTA program and works directly with businesses to apply. For more information, visit
