VANCOUVER POLICE DEPARTMENT ACQUIRES NEW K9
Posted: October 15th, 2012 12:54 PM
The Vancouver Police recently had to retire K9 Leonidas (Leo), due to a medical condition. Leo is a 5 year old German Sheppard and has been with the Vancouver Police Department since 2010. In his career he assisted in the capture of dozens of suspects and located narcotics on multiple occasions. He was also briefly with the SW Washington Regional SWAT Team.
The unplanned retirement and replacement of a K9 is always a costly expenditure for any law enforcement agency to absorb. However, in this circumstance, the Vancouver Police Department is proud to announce that Westfield Vancouver Mall has generously donated the necessary funds to purchase a new K9 for the Vancouver Police Department.
Officer Brian Viles, Leo's former handler, is now in training with his new K9, Enzo. That team is expected to be in service by the end of October. Enzo is a 2 year old German shepherd from Germany.
Westfield Vancouver Mall will be celebrating their recent renovation with a family friendly event featuring booths, public safety vehicles and a K9 demonstration. Recognition of K9 Leo's retirement and an introduction of K9 Enzo will be included in the festivities.
Date: Saturday, October 20, 2012
Time: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Westfield Vancouver Mall (8700 NE Vancouver Mall Drive)
The Vancouver Police Department is always accepting donations to our K9 fund in an effort to maintain a reserve in the event of an unplanned retirement or vacancy in the K9 unit. Anyone interested in making a donation can contact the Vancouver Police Department for more information.
