POLICE MISCONDUCT

Chief Rod Lucich
Molalla Police Department
October 15, 2012
Several months ago, I became aware of allegations of misconduct by one of my officers. Although the allegations were several years old, they raised enough concern that I felt a thorough and impartial investigation was necessary.
In an effort to ensure absolute transparency, I asked the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office to conduct a full and complete investigation and offered the full cooperation and support of the Molalla Police Department. The results of that investigation were recently turned over to the District Attorney's Office for review.
On Monday, October 15, 2012, the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office filed three misdemeanor charges against James Barnhart of the Molalla Police Department. Those charges are: Conspiracy to commit failure to report as a registered sex offender, false swearing and official misconduct in the first degree.
James Barnhart has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the necessary due process.
As with any pending prosecution, I will not be at liberty to discuss the details of this case or release further information at this time.
