On 8/20/12 around 3:40 PM a 13 year-old victim was crossing Brighton Avenue from Barclay with two friends, when she was struck by what witnesses describe as a gold or tan Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler or similar SUV with partial plate 769F. The victim was thrown, and lying in the street unconscious when the occupants of the SUV stopped, got out of the vehicle, looked at the victim in the roadway, then left in their vehicle without rendering aid or calling for help.
On 8/29/12 at approximately 4:30 pm, Juan Carlos Delatorre (dob:4-18-93), called police from an Oregon City pay phone (at the KFC on Main Street), wanting to turn himself in as the driver in the 8/20/12 hit and run. The suspect told police his conscience had been bothering him since the incident and he finally got up the courage to turn himself in. Mr. Delatorre also identified his juvenile female passenger, who was contacted following Mr. Delatorre's arrest.
PLEA AND SENTENCING:
Mr. Juan Carlos Delatorre (dob:4-18-93) plead guilty today (9/26/12) to one count of Felony Hit and Run. He was sentenced to 45 days in jail, when released he will have to complete 3 years of probation. His Oregon drivers license will be revoked for one year and he is mandated to successfully complete a High Risk Drivers Course.
