Police Standoff Ends Safely

POLICE STANDOFF ENDS SAFELY

At approximately 1343 hrs Vancouver Police were dispatched to a female throwing things from her balcony onto the parking lot at 555 W 8th St. Upon arrival patrol officers tried to make contact with the female. The female was armed with a hammer and a hatchet. There was no response or communication. The female continued to destroy property and then climbed onto the balcony outside her apartment. She then climbed onto the outside balcony to the apartment to the south.

The SWAT team and negotiatiors were activated at approximately 1430 hours. Negotiators tried to communicate and had no response. Most surrounding apartments were evacuated.

The fire department responded and a rescue plan was put into place. A ladder was placed against the railing of the neighboring apartment and pinned the female against the building. SWAT operators then pulled her over the railing to safety.

Sherrie L Wilson, 68yrs of age, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 1940 hrs. She was transported to PeachHeath Medical Center for Evaluation. Upon her being cleared for release she will be transported to CCSO and booked on charges including Assault II.

There were no injuries to any parties on scene.
