Mission of Mercy free dental care seeks volunteers for Southern Oregon clinic
Pacific Power joins other sponsors encouraging employees, retirees and customers to volunteer now to help neighbors
MEDFORD, Ore.--For too many in Oregon, Northern California and Washington, dental care is out of reach financially, affecting health, school and work. You can help change this, by volunteering just a few hours of your time to help the Oregon Mission of Mercy provide free dental care and services to people in need Sept. 13-16 at Central High School in Medford, Ore.
In its third year, this outreach program of the Oregon Dental Association, relies heavily on voluntary donations of time and talent, and seeks to fill its volunteer roster by this weekend. And Pacific Power, a co-sponsor of event, is working with program organizers to help.
"We've been actively involved in these events the past two years when they were held in Portland," said Monte Mendenhall, Pacific Power's regional community manager. "The Mission of Mercy in Oregon was instantly a success and it not only helps a lot of people in a short time, but changes lives for the long term. More than 2,000 people have been helped each year, and we know the need is just as great in southern Oregon. We are so pleased to join some great local, regional and even national partners in bringing it this year to our southern Oregon communities, and in actively encouraging our employees, retirees and customers to volunteer."
The great thing is that anyone can help. No dental training is required to make a difference at this event. Help is needed in non-clinical positions such as interviews, data entry, information assistance and line management. Volunteers who are clinically trained and licensed, of course, will find even more opportunities to help.

Since 2010, Oregon Mission of Mercy has worked to provide care to the uninsured, the under-insured and anyone who otherwise has difficulty getting to a dentist. At the annual events, those who come for care -- both adults and children -- are seen on a first-come, first served basis.

While Oregon Mission of Mercy relies on donated services of hundreds of dental professionals and an array of volunteers to provide this free care, the organization also needs cash donations. About the Mission of Mercy
Originating in Virginia and spreading throughout the United States, more than 50 Mission of Mercy (MOM) dental programs have been conducted since 2000 to provide free dental care to local residents who otherwise are unable to receive treatment.
About the Oregon Dental Association
Established in 1893, ODA is a voluntary membership organization for Oregon dentists. It provides continuing education, advocacy and other services for dentists and public information to promote good dental health. More than 71 percent of Oregon's dentists belong to ODA.
