VANCOUVER POLICE ARREST ARMED BURGLAR
Posted: July 12th, 2012 9:31 AM
On July 11, 2012, at approximately 7:20 p.m. Vancouver Police patrol officers and Detectives from the West Neighborhood Response Team, responded to a residence at 30th/ U Street for a burglary in progress. An alert neighbor called 911 after he saw an unknown male who appeared to be under the influence of drugs enter his neighbors house through a back door. When police arrived, the residents of the home were still inside and were unaware that a stranger was in their home. The male resident and two young children who were upstairs were ushered out of the house by police. The female resident was downstairs in the same part of the house as the burglar and also unaware that someone had broken into her home. To maintain her safety, officers called her cell phone with the details that police were attempting to take an unknown male into custody inside her home and to stay inside the bedroom she was in.
The male suspect, Shaun L. Turner, 33, of Vancouver, was taken into custody after being Tased and was booked into the Clark County Jail for first degree Burglary and Resisting Arrest. Officers discovered Turner had used the downstairs bathroom of the home, which was the next room over from the bedroom where the female resident had been taking a nap, and was taken into custody in the hallway, just outside the bedroom door. A knife was recovered when Turner was taken into custody.
None of the residents of the home were injured. This incident is a great example of an alert neighbor calling police immediately when he witnessed a crime occur.
