A Salem-area woman was arrested Friday evening by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with the assistance of Hood River police, after spike strips helped stop her vehicle during an attempt to elude on Interstate 84.

According to Sergeant Julie Wilcox, on July 13, 2012 at approximately 8:50 p.m. OSP attempted to stop a blue 1995 Chevrolet Lumina van displaying Oregon license plates eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 51 for a traffic violation. The van's operator didn't stop and continued driving at 60 - 65 mph as OSP was behind the van with lights and siren on.

In the Hood River area near milepost 62, Hood River police set out spike strips but the driver avoided them. A second set of spike strips were deployed just east of the first set and successfully hit at least one tire causing the driver to stop near milepost 64.

The van's driver, TAMALA JEAN JACKSON, age 51, from Salem, was arrested without further incident and lodged in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility (NORCOR) for Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle. She was also cited for No Operators License and Driving Uninsured.
