On July 25, 2012 at 5:44 p.m., Washington County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Avalon Park Apartments at 17000 SW Highway 99W regarding a serious traffic crash. It was reported that a vehicle was crossing the northbound lanes of Highway 99W when it was struck by a vehicle travelling north. This was a busy time of day for traffic and Highway 99W had heavy traffic.

Sheriff's Deputies learned that a white 2012 Scion XB was crossing the two northbound lanes of Highway 99W entering the Avalon Park Apartments. The Scion was struck on the passenger side by a green 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was travelling northbound on Highway 99W. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and came to rest in the apartment parking lot. There was significant damage to a brick wall and traffic signs.

The Scion was driven by 41, year-old Elizabeth Hamilton, from Tigard. Ms. Hamilton was travelling with her 19 year-old daughter, Emily Hamilton who was the right front passenger. The Chevrolet was driven by 18 year-old, Manuel Mawleon from Tualatin. Elizabeth and Emily Hamilton were transported by ground ambulance to OHSU. Emily Hamilton sustained life-threatening injuries while Elizabeth is currently listed in stable condition.

Mr. Mawleon had three passengers in his vehicle. There was no one injured in Mr. Mawleon's vehicle. Investigators believe Mr. Mawleon was travelling at a high rate of speed which was a contributing factor to this crash.

The northbound lanes of Highway 99W were closed intermittently for over five hours while the crash was investigated.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team is assisting with this incident due to the severity of the crash and injuries.
