Quick action by firefighters from two fire departments stopped a Hillsboro apartment fire before it spread to other units midday Wednesday. Dispatchers sounded the alarm at 12:20 and firefighters from Hillsboro Fire Department and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to find flames coming from a third floor unit at the Wyndhaven Apartments, 120 SW Edgeway Drive. One HFD firefighter doused the blaze on the balcony and cut off the fire's progress toward the attic space. A crew from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue made entry to the two bedroom apartment. The two teams knocked down the flames within 12-minutes of dispatch. Significant fire damage was confined to the exterior of the apartment, with minor fire damage inside the living room. The interior flames tripped the apartment's sprinkler system and firefighters shut off that water flow and helped clean up the standing water. The two apartment below the fire unit suffered water damage as well. The damage estimate i
s placed at $25,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The family of four living in the apartment was not at home at the time. The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross responded and will be providing assistance to the family. There were no injuries.
