On July 29, 2012, just after 6:34 a.m., on Hwy 213 near S Eldorado Road, a Clackamas County Sheriffs Office deputy on his way to work saw a Kia Sorrento driving erratically and tried to stop the car to investigate.
The suspect driver immediately drove off and the deputy followed.
The suspect drove down several roads in the Mulino area attempting to lose the deputy.
At one point the suspect driver slowed down as if to stop and then put the car in reverse, attempting to ram the deputy's car.
The deputy saw the attempt and was able to minimize the damage to his car through quick thinking and an evasive maneuver.
The pursuit continued until about 6:47 a.m. when the suspect crashed his car down a 30-40 foot embankment in the 25000 block of S Pike Road and fled on foot.
A CCSO K9 deputy and handler were called to the scene but were unsuccessful in their attempt to locate the suspect(s). Molalla Police Department officers and an Oregon State trooper also assisted in the search.
The deputies were able to determine the Kia Sorrento was reported stolen out of Salem on July 27, 2012. The car had license plates that were stolen off of another Kia Sorrento in Salem. The car had evidence inside that suggested the occupant(s) had been committing burglaries. The car is being seized as evidence and will be processed at our CSI facility.
The only description we have of the suspect is an adult male with a stocky build. Evidence suggests there was a passenger in the car as well. The suspect(s) are being sought for questioning related to the Attempt to Elude-Felony, Attempted Assault on a Police Officer-Felony, and Burglary I.
There were no reported injuries or property damage aside from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office car.
