On 6/27/2012 at approximately 825 PM a 25 year old female was struck and killed by a Southbound Amtrak Train on the Burlington Northern RR tracks. The collision occurred in rural Clark County at the South end of the RR bridge that crosses the Lewis River from Cowlitz County.
Units from Clark County Sheriff's Office, Clark County Fire Rescue, Cowlitz County, Amtrak and Burlington Northern responded. The investigation revealed that the female was on the railroad bridge prior to the collision. The female was able to make it off the bridge but not off the tracks before being struck.
The external warning devices installed on the train were functioning.
The name of the deceased will not be released pending family notification.
All agencies involved would like to remind the public that it is not only extremely dangerous but illegal to trespass on railroad property, including bridges and tracks.
Any further inquiries should be directed to Amtrak and Burlington Northern.
