A hot air balloon with 10 occupants landed safely in a grassy area west of Interstate 205 Saturday morning after the operator couldn't land safely at two other locations due to wind conditions. No one was injured and the balloon was deflated and removed from the area about 30 minutes after landing.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper Tyler Bechtel, on June 9, 2012 approximately 7:45 a.m. OSP and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported hot air balloon landing on Interstate 205 near Highway 224. Officers found the hot air balloon in a grassy area between the southbound onramp from Highway 224 and SE 82nd Avenue near Milwaukie. Prior to this report, unconfirmed reports into 9-1-1 that a hot air balloon was flying low over the Willamette River near Oregon City.

The inflated balloon and occupants were safely on the ground. The support vehicle came to the landing site and helped remove the balloon, basket and occupants. The balloon's operator said they left from Aurora but wind conditions prevented him from landing at two sites north of Canby, so he controlled the descent until spotting this location to set down.
