Posted: June 6th, 2012 8:05 AM
The Beaverton City Library-Main has the highest circulation of any single public library building in the state. According to Washington County Cooperative Library Services and the Multnomah County Library's FY 2010-11 numbers, the Beaverton City Library-Main has surpassed Hillsboro Public Library-Main, Multnomah County Library-Central and Cedar Mill Community Library-Main.
Beaverton-Main: 2,779,600
Hillsboro-Main: 2,187,038
Multnomah County Library-Central: 1,796,717
Cedar Mill-Main: 1,693,876
"The Beaverton City Library is the crown jewel of our community," said Mayor Denny Doyle. "We're proud of our library's accomplishments and thankful for our dedicated staff and the many volunteers who help make our library such an engaging place."
The numbers reflect the significant role the library has in the community. A family-friendly atmosphere and green operations, such as the electric vehicle charge stations and the solar array on the library's roof, add to the library's appeal.
Last year, Beaverton was second in circulation just behind the total for all Multnomah County Libraries. Beaverton had more than 971,400 visitors last year and circulated 3,379,916 items (which included the Murray Scholls Branch)--an average of 9,500 items for every day the library was open.
